10 Priority Questions for Fall 2026 Advising Visit | PDC

Hello Advising,

Thank you again for visiting our CAL 2970 class. After reviewing the credential presentation, students submitted many thoughtful questions. I answered the general questions that could be addressed through reliable public resources and consolidated the remaining specific student concerns into 10 priority questions.

I know our limited time together will move quickly.

These questions are intended as a guide to the issues students most hope you will address during out time together, not as an expectation that each question receive a separate or lengthy response.

1. Now that our school is no longer admitting new students to the integrated track, what pathway should current Liberal Studies students follow to earn a teaching credential?
2. What do students already completing the integrated-track teach-out need to know about finishing their degree and credential requirements?                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
3. What should students begin doing now, while they are still undergraduates, to prepare for the credential application?
4. How many pre-admission classroom-experience hours are currently required, what types of experience count, and how should students document those hours?
5. How can students determine whether their degree or coursework satisfies the subject-matter requirement or whether they will need to take the CSET?
6. How do student-teaching placements work, and can students request a particular Coachella Valley district, school, grade level, or supervising teacher?
7. What paid internship or teacher-residency opportunities are available locally, and does CSUSB help students find or qualify for them?
8. Which credential courses and programs can students complete at the Palm Desert Campus, and what should working students know about scheduling, fieldwork, and possible travel to San Bernardino?
9. How does entering a credential program affect financial aid, and who should students contact about the Golden State Teacher Grant or other teacher-preparation funding?
10. For students considering bilingual education, secondary teaching, special education, counseling, administration, or a master’s degree, when should they begin discussing those options with an advisor?
